Dr. Gott,
My son and I have had several bouts of pinworms that we cannot seem to get rid of. My question is how much pyrantel palmoate can we take(over a year's time)and how often? Will this affect our liver or other organs? I took the pinworm medicine in early Sept.'09, end of Oct.'09 and again early Feb.2010 and I now notice they're back. I'm afraid to take this "pesticide" too frequently and it says to only administer one dose. I know there are eggs and maybe this is why we can't seem to break the cycle. Can you help us? Also, I read somewhere that there may be a link of frequent pinworm infections and cases of appendicitis. Is this true?
Worried mom.

Pinworms will do no damage to your sons liver or anything. Your son may keep geting them if you do not wash his clothes bed sheets, toys and so on. Keep his nails short and make sure he washes his hands before meals, after playing outside, and after he uses the restroom. The pills will not do any damage. It just kills the worms. If this happens agin, I would talk to your doc. so he can recremend somthing like a specialist in parisites. I hope this helps!
