In 2007 I was diagnosed with chronic hep c, end stage liver disease and 2 cold nodules on my thyroid. I've had two liver biopsies, a thyroid biopsy and 2 utrasounds on my thyroid. In the 4 years before diagnosis I gained alot of weight (almost 100 lbs.) with no change in my eating habits. I also knew something was terribly wrong with me and through a routine hormone exam I was found to have a low T3 uptake which led to my diagnosis of Hep c. Can my T3 uptake being low contribute to my weight gain? I am also extremely lathargic. Although I have a endocronologist and a liver doctor I am not being treated with any medication and they seem to think it's my fault I've gained this weight. At 48 I weighed 145lbs. I know my future outcome is bleak (non responder to interferon). My nodules are getting larger, should I not be on thyroid medication? I am so depressed over all of this.
