My 5 year old daughter was orginally diagnosed with spongiotic dermatitis. I would not accept that diognosis because they couldn't tell me where it came from. After much struggle, and blood work to check for anti-bodies, she was found to not have enough anti bodies for a certain pneumococcal bacteria, and the skin had an overgrowth of this bacteria due to antibiotic reaction and overuse. She needed a bigger pneumo vaccine. She also had major sinus issues that have cleared up as well.
