I am a 47 year old female in excellent health. The past 6 weeks I have developed an itch inside and around the opening of my anus. It has progressively gotten worse. It is bearable during the day but around 5 pm it starts getting really bad and at night I am climbing the walls. I wake several times during the night. At first I thought it might be some small hemorrhoids that I developed during child labor. But I had my daughter 20 years ago and have never had any problems. I eat a healthy diet. I exercise and have never had digestive problems or been constipated. I went to a general practice doctor that suggested over the counter creams and I have tried hemorrhoid creams, fungal creams, have taken a pill for pinworms, also yeast infection and nothing has even remotely helped the problem. I went to a surgeon and he did not think my hemorrhoids needed to be operated on (he suggested the fungal cream), after that didn't work he said I should go to a dermatologist. But there is no visible rash and I have never had any skin problems in the past. I am married to the same man I have been with since I am 16 so there is no chance that it is any kind of STD. My father had 2 feet of his colon removed when he was my age due to polyps so I'm wondering if I should have a colonoscopy. I also was diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat that I never knew I had two months ago. Could this be related? I do not take any medications. They wanted to put me on beta blockers for my heart but my heart feels fine so they said they would just check it annually with a holter monitor. One more thing - the itching is not as bad when I am exercising and moving, much worse when laying down and at night.
