I am a73year old active woman whose CPK score has escalated from 1600 to 3100 in a two year period. I experience no signs of extreme weakness or illness. I have had electro and echo cardiograms, EMG and Muscle biopsy with no outstanding results save "Mild Inflammatory Myopathic Changes" in the muscle biopsy. Temporarily put on Prednisone 20mg two times a day then on to 20mg once a day on promised on to 10 soon. My CKP score last week was in the 400. It is recommended I take Methotrexate which I hesitate to do because of the many frightening potential effects. Is there another method/ medicine to keep my CPK in check because of the impact it can have on my kidneys? Right now my sodium potassium etc are within limits. When I am off the Prednisone, is it possible it can act as "cure" and I will find my CPK will be stable? also, What type of Specialist should I look for to treat to solve my "muscle weakness?". If tests didn't show something is wrong, I would never have suspected, because, I walk, swim, and feel fine. Carolyn Little (Ebonette2@cox.net) Thanks for any insight of help you can give.
